The power of storytelling
The power of storytelling should never be underestimated. It's how we learn about ourselves and our communities, our motivations, fears, and potential.
Although I work full-time as a technical writer, creative writing has always been a passion for me.
Where I live
I was raised in a rural farming community in southwestern Ontario where I spent time horseback riding along the gravel roads and exploring trails among the towering trees.
I now live in Tillsonburg, Ontario, in the heart of Ontario's agricultural belt, with my husband and our brood of cats, dogs, and horses.
Land acknowledgement
In response to Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, I acknowledge that I live on the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg, Haudenosaunee, and Attawandaron peoples, the original caretakers of the land surrounding the town site of Tillsonburg. I have learned that, as a resident of Turtle Island, we must not take without offering something in return. I strive to follow this example modelled by the teachings of Indigenous people.
Turtle taxi driver
I volunteer with the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre, home of the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre, transporting injured turtles to the centre, often in relay legs, and releasing rehabbed turtles back to their natural habitat.
My imprint, Carapace Books, pays tribute to this mission of saving the world, one turtle at a time. And the shell of a turtle is so much like the cover of a book that I almost felt like the name was handed to me.
